Munich, Germany

Ontario has strong ties to Germany. Close to one million Ontarians list their ethnic origins as German. Germany is a key investment and trade partner for Ontario. About 12% of foreign capital investment in Ontario is from Germany, and over 150 German companies employ over 59,000 workers in Ontario. It is Ontario's sixth-largest trading partner.

Ontario and Baden Württemburg

Ontario and the German state of Baden-Württemburg have had a special relationship dating back to the 1970s built on their similar economies and personal relationships between political leaders. In November 2006 Ontario and Baden-Württemburg finalized a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim of exploring exchanges in the educational, environmental, social, energy, tourism and cultural sectors. In addition, a special Letter of Intent of Cooperation in Higher Education was signed with the intention of continuing and expanding the existing student exchanges between the two regions.

The International Marketing Centre in Munich is located in the Canadian Consulate. Staff activities include, but are not limited to promoting awareness of Ontario and the province's many investment and business opportunities, including Ontario's strengths across many sectors, particularly Automotive, Energy (Alternatives) / Environmental and Information Technology (IT).

The Centre's staff also works to promote awareness of and access to Ontario-produced goods and services, and to build relationships with the media and local governments.

For more in-depth information on Ontario's investment advantages in these and other key industries and sectors, review the Ontario-Germany Investment Fact Sheet and the list of Ontario Industry Profiles:
